Squirrelstar (by Kkorester)[]

I'd like to talk about the wonderful and well-known Squirrelstar from the Erin Hunter's Warrior Cat's series. She is kind, determined, loyal, and a favourite among many. I want to talk about her breed, so here is a researched report on what her breed could be.

In Firestar’s Quest, she is named by her bushy tail. Since her father, Firestar, was a Domestic American Shorthair with classic orange tabby markings, and Sandstorm a regular American Shorthair with pale orange markings and coat, it is the best to assume that Squirrelstar is also an American Shorthair with orange tabby fur, green eyes, and a white sock on her right paw. Her official realistic art shows her as an orange tabby with stripes and green glowing eyes, while her other official manga illustration shows her as a fluffy (due to her being a kit) dark ginger cat with no stripes, green glowing eyes, and one white sock on her right paw. Also, Firestar's littermate, Princess (kittypet), gave her first born (Cloudtail) to Firestar, and Cloudtail is a long-haired cat, which means her bushy tail is probably from her genetics leading to a not-so short haired lineage.

Hollyleaf (by Sandy)[]

Ah, Hollyleaf. She's an amazing cat, my favorite. Let's see what breed she is.

First, Hollyleaf is long-furred. That might make her a Norwegian Forest Cat, a Persian Cat, a Maine Coon, a Ragdoll or a Siberian Cat. Although she might not be a Persian Cat, because they have a round face and short muzzle.

Hollyleaf will probably be a Norwegian forest cat, because of her long legs. She probably won't be a Ragdoll, because Hollyleaf is black with no gray and white patterns, neither blue eyes.

She wouldn't be a Siberian cat because they are strong with large paws, and Hollyleaf doesn't.

I hope you enjoying reading my chapter of Hollyleaf's breed!

Bluestar (by Meowing Aster)[]

Possible breeds[]

  • Russian Blue (it is listed on the Warriors Wiki)
    • Nebelung (long hair Russian Blue)
      • Bluestar has long fur
  • British Shorthair
    • This breed is also famous for its blue coat
    • Bluestar has a broad face and a large body
  • Ojos Azules
    • Bluestar can't have blue eyes unless she contains this breed,

Gray Wing (by Sandy)[]

Gray Wing is sleek and broad shouldered. More coming soon

Yellowfang (by Kkorester)[]

I'd like to talk about Yellowfang, the cat who took away her life as a warrior to become a medicine cat. She had done many great things in her life to help those she trusted, and for that she is deeply loved and respected by many. I'll be discussing her breed.

In the books, it describes Yellowfang as a black she-cat with a flat face. It was quite easy finding out what her breed was, which is a Blue Persian with a dark salmon pink nose and hazy orange glowing eyes.

Brokenstar (by Malus)[]

Brokenstar is a flat-faced, dark brown tom with amber eyes. Since he is the son of Yellowfang, he is likely an exotic short hair cat.

Needletail (by Moon)[]

Needletail is a sleek, short furred silver she-cat with a white chest, green eyes, and a thick tail, as described by the Warriors wiki. However, silver is not an actual cat color, and instead is similar to coat colors such as blue self, chinchilla, silver shaded, silver tabby, blue silver tabby, etc. While researching short haired cat breeds, as Needletail is often described as short furred, I came across a single breed where “silver” was an acceptable color. This was the Abyssinian. Now, I understand that Abyssinians are almost always the ginger color officially called sorrel, red, or cinnamon, as well as the red ticked tabby. However, all major associations accept and show silver colors, except for the CFA.

Silver Abyssinians are the usual brown tabby, but with the base coat to turned to a shining, silvery white by the inhibitor gene, though I will prefer not to get into genetics. However, I find this interesting, because Needletail’s father is a dark brown tabby, and white a dark brown tabby is not a recognized color of the Abyssianian breed, it seems like the basis of any sliver Abyssinian, such as Needletail. Her mother, Berryheart, is black and white, which means that she probably has another breed of ancestry.

However, I also think that Needletail has Somali ancestry. While the Somali is a long haired breed, it is arguably a mere variation of the Abyssianian, or usuallly just refered to as the long haired version. While Needletail is clearly not long-haired, she does have the thick tail of a Somali cat. The FIFe, TICA, and GCCF in the United Kingdom all except silver colored Somali cats, making the Somali and Abyssianian the only two cat breeds I have come across where “silver” is a registered color. To be clear, they cannot be black and white, so Berryheart was not a Somali. However, that is a topic for another day. In conclusion, this leads me to believe Needletail - one of my absolute favorite warrior cats - is an Abyssianian, with Somali ancestry (for the most part).

Leopardstar (by Cloudy)[]

Leopardstar is a very interesting character and I would definitely want a SE of her. Let’s see what breeds it is possible that she is. First of all, Leopardstar is spotted. Spotted cats are Bengal cats, one of the most adorable types of cats. Now we move into a more difficult thing. Leopardstar was also mentioned to be golden. The problem here is what describes a golden cat. Golden is something between brown and ginger, at least this is how I see that. If will look at Leopardstar’s oficial art we’ll see that she was simply shown as ginger tabby. But we go by Leopardstar’s written description, right? So Bengal cats can have shades of anywhere between gray (yes, there are some not purebred gray Bengal cats), brown, and ginger. So we can tell that some of them are golden, I guess. So it definitely makes Leopardstar a possible bengal. But Leopardstar was mentioned to have a winding tail. Winding means long. So here is the problem – Bengal cats are short haired. But here is the thing that saves us: Leopardstar isn’t purebred. Her mom is ginger and white (definitely not a Bengal) and her dad is brown spotted, so we can assume he’s bengal. That makes sense: Leopardstar got her Bengal gens from her dad, and the long fur from her mom. That’s it! Cloudy, signing out.

Tallstar (by Mojoflight)[]

DESCRIPTION:

Tallstar is a large cat with a long, thin tail and short, thick fur.

---

WindClan cats are described to have good hearing, and they probably need to have thin, long legs to run quickly.

There are two candidates for his possible breed that I can think of that are tall, have long legs, large ears and a very thin tail that is long.

Cornish Rex

Tallstar is described to have a short but thick coat, and Cornish Rex cats have curly fur that looks thick. Cornish Rex cats are small-to-medium-sized cats, but that have very long legs which makes them look tall.

Oriental Bicolour/Shorthair

It could be possible for Tallstar to be an Oriental, as they tick almost all of the boxes, if not all of them. Oriental Shorthair cats have a short but fine coat that is quite thick in appearance.

I’ve even seen Tallstar being depicted as an Oriental in some fan-art!

---

Overall, either breed could belong to Tallstar because they have very long and thin tails and legs, which make them look tall and athletic.

Spottedleaf (by Coldie)[]

Spottedleaf's detailed description is this: Spottedleaf - small, lithe, soft-furred, dark tortoiseshell-and-white she-cat with large, warm, amber eyes, and white-tipped ears. Her coat is distinctively dappled and mottled with orange and brown markings, and she has a small, pink nose. One of her eyes is rimmed with darker fur than the other, and she has small white paws and a black-tipped, gold-and-brown-striped tabby tail. Possible breeds: tortoiseshell breeds: American Shorthair, British Shorthair, Persian, Cornish Rex, Ragamuffin, and Maine Coon. Let's eliminate Maine Coon, Persian, and American Shorthair. That leaves us with the British Shorthair, Cornish Rex, and Ragamuffin. I'm going to eliminate Cornish Rex because the Cornish Rex has veryyyyy short fur, and I don't think it's really soft. Spottedleaf doesn't have short fur, but she isn't said to have long fur either. I'm going to presume that she's a mix between a Ragamuffin and a British Shorthair. She must have British Shorthair blood in her because British Shorthairs usually have amber eyes.

Silverstream (by Coldie)[]

Silverstream's a sleek, soft, and thick-furred, slender, silver-and-black tabby she-cat with a finely shaped head, and bright blue eyes. So she's fluffy, so that means she can be a Norwegian Forest Cat, a Persian Cat, a Maine Coon, a Ragdoll or a Siberian Cat. She's probably not a Persian because Persian's have flat faces, she's probably not a Norwegian Forest Cat because they usually only have blue eyes if they have white pelts, and she probably isn't a Maine Coon because Maine Coons are super fluffy and have tufted ears. She has to be a Ragdoll because Ragdolls usually have blue eyes, and she could have Siberian blood in her because Siberian's could be silvers. Siberian's also look like how Silverstream might look. So, in conclusion, I think that Silverstream might be a mix between a Siberian and Ragdoll.

Tree (by Florie)[]

My first time writing this, not sure if it should look like this :3

Tree is known as a small, thickly pelted, muscular, bright yellow tom with amber eyes, and six toes on one of his hind paws. Okay let's ignore the six-toed part because it's not necessarily related to breeds. Okay, so, he's small, which means he might be a Singapura, Munchkin, American Curl, or Siamese cat. He might not be Munchkin because he is thickly pelted instead of fluffy, might not be Singapura because his tail's not blunt and might not be Siamese because he is muscular. He looks much like an American Curl on the official art, so I think he might be an American Curl.

Ivypool (by Coldie)[]

Ivypool is a slender, soft-furred, pale, silver-and-white tabby she-cat. She has white paws, a white belly and face, white splotches covering her pelt, a striped silver tail and silver tail-tip, sliced ears, and dark blue eyes. I'm guessing she has medium fluff, so like 5/10 fluffiness. I'm thinking she could be an....... American Shorthair, British Shorthair, or an Egyptian Mau. This is really narrowing it down, so I might be wrong. She could still be an American Shorthair, but I'll cross of British Shorthair because that doesn't seem like her, and finally, she couldn't be an Egyptian Mau because they usually have gooseberry green eyes. So she is probably an American Shorthair!

Graystripe (By Daydust)[]

Following the description of the official Warriors Wiki, Graystripe is very fluffy, with thick fur. He is also a big cat with stripes. Sounds like a Maine Coon! Maine Coons can be gray, but they seem too big and bulky for Graystripe, who appears smaller than a Maine Coon compared to Twolegs. It's still the closest I could find!

Update: just realised how similar the face shape and markings are with the Graystripe official art and the Maine Coon image I found. Looks like I was right!

Tigerstar the First (by Daydust)[]

Tigerstar is described as a big dark brown tabby with huge claws, and also called a "useless lump of fur" (wow, Cinderpelt, dissing my fave villain like that)

It is very possible that he is also a Maine Coon like Graystripe, but it just doesn't fit. He's seen as mainly sleek with only slight bits of fluff, and he's going without the distinctive muzzle.

Yet another thing that hints at Maine Coon is the fact that Tigerstar is described with a thick-furred, fluffy tail that most Maine Coons have.

Alderheart (By Sune Rainystomp)[]

Ok so it's time to do my little kinnie Alderheart... so let's see...

I always like to picture him with a fluffy tail but we will have to read the warriors wiki.

It says Alderheart is a dark ginger tom with a white-tipped tail. Now i'm assuming he got the white from Squirrelflight's paw. And eyes from his dad. But that's not how genetics work... at least I don't think. Well, he must have medium fur. And warriors isn't perfect, either.

Well, he is not a munchkin because he isn't short. Nor a bobtail, nor a persian. So what is he? This one's a little tricky... I'm starting to think Abyssian but he doesn't have black on him, though not all of those cats do. But now I think I got it! Somali! They are perfect for him! Not too fluffy like a maine coon, and capable of having a white tail or tip... Hope you agree!

Dovewing (by Duskpaw)[]

So, Dovewing is described as a sleek, pale grey she-cat with green eyes and a torn ear. There are lots of grey cats, like the British and American shorthair, the Chartreux and the Russian Blue. Now, the British Shorthair is a grey cat, but has basically always amber eyes and a broad face, and Dovewing has neither so I don’t think she’s this breed. The American Shorthair has a good body type to be Dovewing, and has green eyes but almost all the photos I saw of them were tabbies so not Dovewing. The Chartreux has the correct body type and fur but almost always has amber-orange eyes except for one photo that I saw that could be Dovewing. Now, the Russian Blue has a good body type and fur colour, and has green eyes! So I think that Dovewing would be a Russian Blue or a tiny chance of her being a Chartreux!

Leafpool (by Briarpaw)[]

Leafpool is a small, lithe, pale brown tabby she-cat with amber eyes. She has a white chest and paws.

Being a brown tabby means you have darker stripes, spots or whirls (in Leafpool's case I'd guess stripes) on a lighter brown background.

Since we're not sure if she's striped or ticked or spotted or whorled here is a list of some tabby breeds that can be spotted or whorled or striped or ticked.

  • American Bobtail
  • American Shorthair
  • Bengal
  • British Shorthair
  • Cheetoh (Wait what)
  • Egyptian Mau
  • Maine Coon
  • Munchkin
  • Norwegian Forest Cat
  • Persian
  • Ocicat
  • Scottish Fold
  • Siberian
  • Sokoke

Let's try to cross some breeds of the list.

American Bobtails have bobtails. There are, I believe, several implications that Leafpool "swished her tail" or "brushed her tail against somebody's flank" which means she most likely wouldn't have a bobtail but rather a longer one. She can't be an Egyptian Mau because they usually have gooseberry green eyes.

Maine Coons and Norwegian Forest cats are normally large. Leafpool has been described as a small cat which means she wouldn't be a Maine Coon.

I also believe it will be safe to cross Munchkins out since Leafpool has never been described as short-legged when that's a common and most known trait of Munchkins! Persians and Scottish Folds are out because I don't think Leafpool has a flat face.

Leafpool is probably a short-furred cat since both her parents are and the official art suggests so, so Leafpool cannot be a Persian cat.

  • American Shorthair - large body, round face, short ears, easy-going, social
  • Bengal - Enjoys water, lively, short-furred, and mostly has leopard-like coloring and markings
  • British Shorthair - short muzzle, broad cheeks, looks a bit like Scottish fold, apparently
  • Cheetoh (Wait what) - an Ocicat and Bengal mix
  • Ocicat - Sweet and docile, strong body
  • Siberian - long-furred, big paws, short-legged
  • Sokoke - long-legged with short hair and typically has a tabby coat

Okay, I'm going to cut American Shorthair, Bengal, British Shorthair, Cheetoh, and Siberian cats. Ocicat, too. So I think Leafpool might be a Sokoke.

Mothwing (by Fawnpaw)[]

(Fawnleg: I was trying to do Leafpool but Bri did it first :( so I am doing Mothwing)

Mothwing is described to be a dappled golden tabby she-cat with amber eyes.

There is no specific golden cat breed, so here is the list of cat breeds that can be golden:

  • Norwegian Forest Cat-Long furred, water-resistant coat, have a long bushy tail
  • Munchkin- Can be long-furred or short-furred, have short legs
  • British shorthair- Medium long-furred, fluffy coat, have a medium-sized tail
  • Maine Coon- Long-furred cats, have muscular and robust bodies, the biggest cat breed in the world
  • Persian- Long-furred cats, round face and short muzzle, pure kittypet
  • Bengal- Short-furred or Medium-furred, hind legs are slightly longer than the front
  • American Bobtail: Can be long-furred or short-furred, have shortened tails, any eye color

We rule out Bengal because Mothwing is a long-haired cat. She isn't a Munchkin since she doesn't have tiny legs, and she isn't an American Bobtail because she has a normal tail. We rule out Persians as well because she isn't a pure kittypet because one of her parents is a wild cat. She is also not a Norwegian Forest cat because she does not have a water resistant coat. Not only that, she is not able to swim naturally as it shown in Return To The Clans that she almost got drown in a flooding building. Most Riverclan cats are Norwegian Forest Cat, but Mothwing isn't kin to Riverclan.

This lead us to two options; British Shorthair or Maine Coon. But because British Shorthair don't have dappled coats, we can eliminate British Shorthair as a secondary option.

This lead us to her being Maine Coon.

Do Maine Coon have dappled coats? Yes they can. Do they have normal tail lengths? Yes they can be long or medium. Mothwing is described to be a muscular tabby. Do Maine Coon have muscular coats? Yes.

Even though most Maine Coons are big, there are some small and medium Maine Coons result of mutations. It can weigh as little as 8 pounds. It is rare for a mature Maine Coon to be smaller than this though.

This is my reason for Mothwing to be Maine Coon.

Mapleshade (by Mosspaw)[]

I will now figure out what Mapleshade's most likely breed is.

Mapleshade's detailed description (found on the Warriors Wiki) is a large, tortoiseshell-and-white she-cat with white patches throughout her pelt and amber eyes. There is a lot more, but it isn't relevant to her possible breed so it doesn't matter.

Possible tortoiseshell cats are American Shorthairs, British Shorthairs, Persian, Cornish Rex, Ragamuffin, and Maine Coon. It also says she is large, though, and that she has thick fur, which really only means she isn't a Cornish Rex. I'd also say she isn't a Persian, because if you compare her official art with a tortoiseshell Persian, they don't really look similar at all. I also don't think she's an American Shorthair, because it looks like most of them don't have white splotches. That leaves British Shorthair, Ragamuffin, and Maine Coon. Her fur is also thick around her neck, like a mane (from the Warriors Wiki) and British Shorthairs don't have that, while Maine Coons and Ragamuffins do. For this last part, I looked at Mapleshade's eyes. They are amber, and the main Ragamuffin eye colors are blue and green, while Maine Coons usually have golden or green. Golden is close enough to amber, so I'd say Mapleshade is a Maine Coon cat.

An Example of A Tortoiseshell and White Maine Coon

Sandstorm (By Daydust)[]

I'm not only (finally!) back, but surprised that nobody has chosen to do Sandstorm! I found a list of cats that can be pale ginger, and crossed them out based on description.

Sandstorm's detailed description describes her as a slender, pale ginger she-cat with pale leaf-green eyes, soft and sleek fur, and barely visible stripes of darker fur. Due to her daughter Squirrelflight sometimes being described with short legs, I'm giving her those, too.

The list of cats I found that can be pale ginger can be found below, along with their descriptions.

  • Abyssinan: Domestic, short-haired, "ticked" tabby fur
  • Bengal: Domestic, leopard-like appearance
  • Egyptian Mau: Small-to-medium sized, short-haired, naturally spotted
  • Munchkin: Very short legs yet good jumpers, medium-plush coat
  • Persian: Long-haired, round face and short muzzle, pure kittypet
  • Maine Coon: Large cats with thick fur and bushy tails

We can immediately erase Persians due to them being pure kittypet, which Sandstorm is not. Sandstorm is not spotted, nor has a leopard-like pattern, so Bengal and Egyptian Mau is extremely unlikely. Sandstorm has soft and sleek fur, which means it almost absolutely has to be medium or longer, and she is never described with a ticked tabby coat, so Abyssinan is gone, too. That only leaves Munchkins and Maine Coons, which are perfect. Munchkins have short legs yet are good leapers, like Sandstorm, who has short legs yet is a good hunter (hunting requires leaping!). Munchkins have "medium-plush" fur and Maine Coons have thick fur, which means that a Munchkin-Maine Coon mix would be very soft. Another piece of evidence is that Sandstorm's father is estimated to be Redtail, who is almost certainly a Munchkin-Maine Coon mix with his short legs and fluffy, thick-furred tail.

Princess (by Daydust)[]

I am (unapologetically) obsessed with doing this. Princess time! As per usual, I will search up cats that can have her colour coding, and cross them out based on description.

Princess is a light brown tabby with a distinctive white chest and paws, green eyes, fluffy and soft fur, and a thick tail. (Description from the warriors wiki)

Princess would most likely be purely a singular breed, due to her being a kittypet. I will be trying to make her a singular breed, unless she definitely has characteristics from more than one.

A list of cats that can be light brown tabbies with green eyes can be found below:

  • Bengals: Domesticated, leopardlike pattern
  • Maine Coons: Large cats with thick fur and bushy tails
  • Exotic Shorthairs: Basically short-haired persians, flat noses and faces
  • Persians: Long-haired, short-ish muzzles, pure kittypet
  • Munchkins: Very short legs, medium-plush coat
  • Siberians: Domesticated, large eyes, large foreheads, large paws
  • Scottish Folds: Domesticated, folded ears
  • Oriental Shorthairs: Siamese head and body shape, triangular head with large ears

Scottish Fold can immediately be scratched out due to the folded ears, which Princess is never described with. She is never described with short legs either, so Munchkin is gone. Her muzzle is not flat, so Exotic Shorthair is gone. If she had unusually large eyes or paws, it would most likely be descirbed, so Siberian can be scratched out. She is a tabby, so Bengal is not a possibility. Oriental Shorthairs have very short fur, so it most likely would be not soft, and thus, Oriental Shorthair is not a possibility. The only possible breeds left are Persian and Maine Coon, both of which have thick fur, so I'll be looking deeper into how she is described. Maine Coons often have large muzzles and very fluffy tails, and Persians have short muzzles (but not flat) and are smaller than Maine Coons.

After a quick look into her official art, she is shown as about the same size as Smudge, and the length of her muzzle cannot be determined. Smudge is said to have a narrow face, which Maine Coons do not have. After a closer look, Princess and Smudge appear to have the same face shape, which leads me to determine that Princess is a Persian.

UPDATE: A sudden jolt of inspiration led me to look up images of Persian and Maine Coon mixes, and they look exactly like how I imagine Princess to look, and they match her description. Seems like Princess is not a pure Persian after all.

Cloudtail (By Daydust)[]

Cloudtail! Very split opinions on this fluffy guy who doesn't believe in StarClan. I'm doing my usual routine; Looking up cats who can have his pattern, and crossing them out based on description. Because of his mother most likely being a Persian/Maine Coon mix, I'm adding that into his breed, definitely. We don't know what breed his father is, so we can't determine his breed right away.

List of cats that can be pure white found below:

  • American curl: Has curled ears
  • American shorthair: Powerfully built body, round faces, short ears and fur
  • British shorthair: Stocky body, dense coat, broad face, very short muzzle
  • Cornish Rex: Almost no hair, large ears
  • Devon Rex: Tall-eared, short-furred
  • Japanese Bobtail: Bobtail resembling the tail of a rabbit
  • Maine Coon (Already have!)
  • Norwegian Forest Cat: Long, water-shedding hair, woolly undercoat
  • Oriental Shorthair: Siamese head and body shape, triangular head and large ears
  • Persian (Already have!)
  • Scottish Fold: Folded ears
  • Siberian: Large eyes, large foreheads, large paws
  • Turkish Angora: Long, silky coats, tufty tails, pointed, large, and wide-set ears
  • Turkish Van: Semi-long fur, sleek appearance, unusual fascination with water

Scottish Fold is immediately erased due to Cloudtail not having folded ears, and American Curl can also go due to Cloudtail not having curled ears. Cornish Rex, British Shorthair, American Shorthair, Oriental Shorthair and Devon Rex can also be eliminated due to having short fur. Japanese Bobtail is also gone due to the bobtail. We now have Norwegian Forest Cat, Siberian, Turkish Angora, and Turkish Van as possibilities. Turkish Van can possibly be eliminated due to Cloudtail appearing to dislike water. Norwegian Forest Cat can also go due to Cloudtail getting soaked in water, proving he doesn't have water-shedding fur. Cloudtail does not appear to have the characteristics of a Siberian in official art, so all that leaves is Turkish Angora, which honestly makes sense. He is sometimes shown with a tufted tail and wide-set ears.

Feathertail (By Mountainpaw)[]

Well, I see no one has done a Feathertail yet, so this is where I come in since she is my favorite Warriors character! :)

Feathertail is described to be a slender silver tabby with a plumy tail like a wisp of smoke, white markings, liquid sky-blue eyes, tufted ears and fur soft as a cloud.

After flipping through the very handy book I just happened to borrow out of the library, of cat breeds, I'm immediately going to go to longhairs, since Feathertail is said to be fluffy and soft like most RiverClan cats. The breed Feathertail is most paired with is Maine Coon, but I wouldn't call her a Maine Coon cat since she's quite slender, unlike the fluffy felines of the Maine coast.

However I soon found a perfect match; Turkish Angora. Turkish Angoras come in many different patterns and colors, and silver tabby with white is one of them. Turkish Angoras also have large, tufted ears, slender bodies yet fluffy chests, and long, thick, brush-like tails, similar to Feathertail's description! They also have graceful bodies like most RiverClan cats, as well as silky, shimmering coats which match the soft and glossy fur Feathertail is characterized with. Their fur is as soft as a rabbits, so really, that's a perfect pair for Feathertail! They are also loving and intelligent, also going pretty well with Feathertail. They bond tightly with their families, and are really sweet pets once they get to know you and you get to know them. Here are some snapshots of silver tabby Turkish Angoras; do you think it matches Feathertail? Do you think it's her breed?

Turkish-Angora-Tabby-Brown

The only thing that doesn't match are the eyes; most Turkish Angoras don't have blue eyes, like the kitty in the picture. Maybe Feathertail could be a mix, or maybe she could be a unqie fluffy buddy who has blue charmers instead of the greenish/brown the breed in the picture has.

Here are some fun facts about Turkish Angoras!

Turkish Angora fun facts

  • Records of this cat date back to the 16th century
  • It first arrived in Europe during the Renaissance
  • They nearly went extinct

Ravenpaw (by Daydust)[]

If you've read my pages, you know the drill. If you haven't, I'll explain quickly. I look up breeds that can have the cat's pattern, and eliminate breeds on the list based on appearance until I have one or two that fit the description. If no breed matches, I'll look up mixes that can work.

List of breeds that can be black and white:

  • Oriental: Siamese head and body shape, triangular head and large ears
  • Cornish Rex: Almost no hair (very short hair), large ears
  • Ragamuffin: Rectangular, broad-chested body, thick rabbit-like fur
  • Devon rex: Tall-eared, short-furred
  • Persian: Long-haired, short-ish muzzles, pure kittypet
  • Manx: No tail, round head, round muzzle, rounded ears
  • Turkish Angora: Long, silky coats, tufted tails, pointed, large, and wide-set ears
  • Munchkin: Very short legs yet good jumpers, medium-plush coat
  • Maine Coon: Large with thick fur and bushy tails
  • Scottish Fold: Folded ears
  • American Curl: Slightly curled ears
  • Snowshoe: Triangular head, short-haired, pointed ears, long cat
  • American Wirehair: Wiry coat, round heads
  • Arabian Mau: Large and firm structure
  • Japanese Bobtail: Has a bobtail (Woah! I didn't expect that from the Japanese Bobtail!)
  • American Shorthair: Powerfully built body, round faces, short ears and fur
  • European Shorthair: Broad chest, short, glossy, springy coat, round paws
  • British Shorthair: Dense coat, broad face, flat muzzle
  • Norwegian Forest: Water-shedding coat, woolly undercoat
  • Siberian: Large eyes, large foreheads, large paws

Right off the bat, Persian is gone due to being pure kittypet unlike Ravenpaw, along with Scottish Fold and American Curl for having ear shapes that Ravenpaw doesn't. Manx and Japanese Bobtail can also begone due to having almost no tail. More coming soon

Hollytuft (by Thriftheart)[]

(I hope I'm doing this right because I have never done this before-)

So, after brief research I have found that Hollytuft is a fluffy black she-cat with what appears to be green eyes. If you look at what cat breeds can be black and long-haired, you get these:

  • Maine-coon
  • York Chocolate
  • Chantily-Tiffany
  • Japanese Bobtail
  • Scottish Fold
  • Manx
  • American Curl
  • Turkish Angora
  • Ragamuffin

Now, I'm going to go ahead and knock a few of these out of the water right quick! Japanese Bobtail is out due to it's short tail, Scottish Fold for it's ears, Manx for it's tail, and American Curl for it's ears! Now Out of these cats, only these can have green eyes:

  • Maine Coon
  • York Chocolate
  • Chantliy-Tiffany
  • Turkish Angora
  • Ragamuffin

So, no difference! Now, let's go to build! Hollytuft is a ThunderClan cat, so she must be lightweight and somewhat muscular. These cats follow up:

  • York Chocolate
  • Chantliy-Tiffany

And out of these two, York Chocolate is in for the win! :D Just for a comparison, here you go:

Blackstar (by Eggpaw)[]

Blackstar is described as "tall" and "huge". He has a sleek pelt and a broad chest. For me, the first breed that comes to mind is an Oriental Shorthair. But let's dig deeper. Possible breeds include:

  • Oriental Shorthair (size)
  • Chausie (size)
  • Turkish Van (size, pelt pattern)
  • Cheetoh (size, and yes, this is a thing)

The Turkish Van seems most likely. But, that's not the end of the story. Blackstar has six toes on one of his paws, meaning he is a polydactyl cat. This is caused by a mutation in - actually, I don't think it matters much. Turkish Van cats also have a few orange spots instead of black ones, so Blackstar must be mutated or cross-bred to obtain a black base. So, that's it! Blackstar is a polydactyl, mixed breed who mostly represents a Turkish-Van-like body type with a black base. Here's a picture for comparison!

This Turkish Van has Blackstar's eye color, as well as a pattern that resembles his.

Twigbranch (By Mojoflight)[]

Twigbranch is a slender, grey She-cat with green eyes.

What cat breed(s) do I think suit Twiggy? Let’s find out!

---

Cornish Rex

Twigbranch 2

A Cornish Rex Cat.

The Cornish Rex is a small-to-medium-size cat breed that has a slender, muscular body, long thin legs and large ears, as well as distinctively short and curly or wavy fur.

While Twigbranch’s fur is sometimes described as ‘fluffy’ and ‘glossy’ in the books, she isn’t really said to have very long fur from what I remember, so her fur could be semi-long and flowing, but if she has Cornish Rex ancestry, her fur could be short and curly or wavy, giving her pelt a fluffy look.

Also, this cat breed just screams Twigbranch to me for some reason. Don’t know why, but the image that I found of a grey Cornish Rex cat with green eyes looks just like how I imagine her.

Turkish Angora/Anatolian

Twigbranch 1

A Turkish Angora cat.

The Turkish Angora is a graceful cat breed with soft semi-long fur and a long and slim body. Although they are usually white with green eyes, they can now be found with almost any fur colour, pattern and eye colour.

This cat breed suits the slim build of Twigbranch pretty well, along with her fluffy, glossy fur. The thing is that Turkish Angoras have semi-long fur and mostly come in solid white, although they do usually have the same green eyes as Twiggy.

There is a short-haired variety of the Turkish Angora called the Anatolian, but their fur is too short to be considered fluffy, based on pictures I’ve seen of them.

Russian Blue/Nebelung

Twigbranch 3

A Russian Blue cat.

The Russian Blue is a medium-sized cat with lithe, muscular bodies and bluish-grey fur. The Nebelung has the same body type and colour as their short-haired counterparts, the only difference being their long, shimmering fur.

This cat breed also suits Twigbranch’s appearance very accurately in terms of body type, except that Twigbranch is only described as just ‘grey’ and not ‘blue-grey’, which is the only accepted pelt colour for this breed.

However, the Russian Blue’s long-haired variant called the Nebelung has the fluffy and glossy fur that Twigbranch has, which still makes this cat breed a possible contender.

Conclusion

After looking at each of these three cat breeds, I have come to the conclusion that Twigbranch could have the Cornish Rex or Nebelung ancestry, or even both!

The Nebelung has the fluffy, glossy fur that Twigbranch has been described with before, and the Cornish Rex has the slender and athletic build, along with large ears.

Thank you for reading this chapter, and goodbye.
