Blossomfall’s Wish is a story written by Turtle. It’s about Blossomfall and Hazeltail giving each other advice, and realizing how much they mean to each other. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Blossomfall sat by the prey pile, eating a mouse, but it tasted like dust in her mouth.
She had gotten lost in the tunnels with Ivypool only earlier that day. She’d been grateful when they finally got out.
When Whitewing saw Ivypool, she gently scolded her, but also told her she was very happy she was alright.
But when Blossomfall’s mother, Millie, saw her, it was a different story.
She yelled at her, humiliating her in front of the entire Clan.
Blossomfall had stood there silently, shame making her pelt feel warm.
Why couldn’t Millie show her the same affection she showed Briarlight? Why did she push Blossomfall away when all she wanted was to be loved?
“Blossomfall? Are you okay?” a soft voice mewed.
Blossomfall looked up. It was Hazeltail.
“Hi, Hazeltail.” she quietly responded.
“I saw what happened with Millie earlier today.” Hazeltail said. Her green eyes showed sympathy.
“Didn’t the whole Clan see that?” Blossomfall sorrowfully said, her voice shaking.
Hazeltail sat down. “I disagree with Millie’s actions. I don’t think she should have done what she did, and I’m very sorry you were embarrassed like that.”
“I just want attention from my mother.” Blossomfall whispered. She sadly gazed at Hazeltail.
“But that will never happen. I know she’s only worried about Briarlight, but does she have to neglect me in the process?” Blossomfall’s voice was choked up with emotion.
Hazeltail was silent for a moment or two. Then she spoke.
“I will be here for you. I know I’m no replacement for your mother. But if you need an older sister figure, or a friend, I’ll be here.”
Hazeltail then got up, and started to pad away.
“Wait.” Blossomfall meowed.
Hazeltail turned around. “Yes?”
Blossomfall said, “Thank you. I...I really could use someone to talk to.”
Hazeltail purred. “You’re a good cat, Blossomfall. It’s a shame about what happened to you earlier- I feel like Millie could have been less...snappy- but I’m glad you’re my Clanmate, and my friend.”
Blossomfall was filled with warmness, and she mewed, “You’re a great friend.”
Hazeltail had always been there for her, she realized.
Who took her to the medicine cat den when she was sick, and Millie wasn’t paying attention to her?
Hazeltail.
Who had always been kind to her, no matter what?
Hazeltail.
Who had treated her like a younger sister, and mentored her fairly and wisely?
Hazeltail.
For the first time, Blossomfall was realizing just how much this she-cat had done for her- and she was extremely grateful.
Blossomfall intertwined her tortoiseshell tail with Hazeltail’s gray-and-white one, and, for the first time in a while, she felt wanted, loved, and recognized- exactly how she wanted to feel.
The two she-cats sat in silence for a few minutes. But then Hazeltail spoke.
She mewed, “I can relate to you, Blossomfall. My mother’s former mate, Spiderleg... he also neglected me. Daisy wanted a fresh start after Smoky proved himself to be unkind, but Spiderleg didn’t pay attention to me.
“I yearned for his praise. I wanted him to love me. And Berrynose, Mousewhisker, Toadstep, and Rosepetal, of course.
“But I always felt like he didn’t pay attention to me. And I hated the way it made me feel. We don’t have a close relationship, and that makes me afraid to open up to him about... things.”
Hazeltail shuffled her paws, and she looked away.
Blossomfall’s heart ached with sympathy for her friend.
“That’s exactly how I feel.” she meowed. “It’s terrible, feeling like this, but we can be here for each other.”
Hazeltail licked Blossomfall on the head. “You’re right. And I’m happy that I could open up to you. This stuff has been worrying me for sometime now.”
Blossomfall suggested, “Maybe you could talk to Daisy about it? She was also neglected by Spiderleg, so she could probably help you with your feelings.”
Hazeltail nodded. “That’s what I’ll do. And I think that you should also reach out to Graystripe. See what he thinks of Millie’s actions.”
Blossomfall purred, “I will.”
She shyly said, “Thanks for the advice, and the help.”
“No, thank you. You also helped me.” Hazeltail said warmly.
“You’re welcome, Hazel.” Blossomfall softly mewed, remembering the nickname she’d given Hazeltail as an apprentice.
Hazeltail said, “I’d better get going- I told Toadstep we’d go hunting together. I’ll see you later.”
She walked away, and Blossomfall purred as her heart warmed with happy thoughts of Hazeltail- a kind cat who’d been here for her all along.
