An Ivypool Short Story[]

By: Fluffpaw[]

Hi all! This is a AU where Ivypool is evil. It is an entry for Frogpaw/storm's Short Story Competition.

There are only a few scenes I felt that would've been majorly different so these are the only ones I've included.

Prologue[]

Ivypaw looked at Dovepaw. It wasn’t fair how she was everyone’s favorite. Ivypaw could hunt just as well as her if not better. The only difference was that Dovepaw heard the prey first. Why did Dovepaw get to be in a prophecy? Ivypaw wondered, I could have had super hearing too. Ivypaw pushed through the camp entrance, she wanted to come back with so much prey during her assessment, Dovepaw wouldn’t be able to even count it!

Chapter 1[]

Antpelt squirmed beneath Ivypool's claws. As the cold fog of the Dark Forest swirled around Ivypool, she felt powerful as a member of TigerClan. Dovewing could never be able to feel like this! she thought. Antpelt squeaked beneath her. “Wake up Antpelt,” she growled,“ you’re too weak and afraid to fight me.” Ivypool glared down at him. Antpelt’s eyes glimmered with fear as he vanished. A twig snapped behind her, she spun around hissing. Thistleclaw calmly padded up to her, “Oh, it’s just you.” she sighed. “Great work Ivypool.” Thistleclaw purred, “You fought well. I knew we could trust you.” Ivypool felt proud. Take that Dovewing.

“Antpelt won’t get any sleep tonight.” she meowed. Mapleshade stepped into the clearing. “Have you got any news for us Ivypool?” She turned to Thistleclaw, “You should be worried Thistleclaw, one day Ivypool will be the best fighter we have, even better than you.” Ivypool’s spirit swelled with pride.

“I do have news.” Ivypool told them, “Dovewing thinks that there is a fourth cat in the prophecy.”  Mapleshade looked disappointed, “Not that foolish prophecy again,” she growled, “StarClan’s prophecies are only for fools.” Ivypool was concerned, “But…what if the prophecy is real?! I’ve seen Dovewing, she thinks she’s sooo special with her ability to hear everything. No cat can hear that far away naturally.” Ivypool protested. Mapleshade snorted, she was obviously unimpressed, “Next time come back with better information than that.”

Chapter 2[]

“Ivypool!” Dovewing called out to Ivypool who was sitting with Fernsong sharing a shrew. Ivypool looked up, annoyed. “What is it?” she asked. Dovewing shifted her paws, “Can we talk?” she looked up at Fernsong, “Alone?” Ivypool glared at her sister, Who is she, thinking she can boss around Fernsong?! Just because she’s older doesn’t make her the boss. Fernsong stood up, “I can leave. It’s no problem.” He started to leave but Ivypool stopped him. “Anything Dovewing has to say to me, she can say to both of us.” she stared at Dovewing, “Isn’t that right? Don’t you like to include everyone?” Dovewing looked shocked. Let her be then, Fernsong doesn’t need to take orders from her. “I do like to include everyone! But this is important stuff!” Dovewing meowed. Fernsong’s eyes opened wide. “Well in that case I am very happy to leave. But I’ll see you later, right Ivypool?” he padded towards the camp entrance. Ivypool turned to Dovewing, “You know that’s not what this is about.” she growled.

Dovewing looked worried, “But it’s about you! Tigerheart told me you’re not the cat I think you are!” “Well just who do you think I am!” Ivypool snapped. “You’re my sister and I’m worried about you! Spying on the Dark Forest is not an easy thing to do! I'm trying to be a good sister and warn you!” Dovewing yowled. “Oh, so you don’t think I can do it? Maybe you’re not a good sister anymore then!” Ivypool retorted. If only Dovewing knew I'm actually helping the Dark Forest. What had Dovewing ever done to help her? The Dark Forest was promising to teach her to be the best warrior the Clans had ever seen. Dovewing was useless compared to them.

Chapter 3[]

The time was coming. Soon Tigerstar and the Dark Forest cats would be coming to rule the Clans. They would be united under Tigerstar’s rule. Ivypool had conveyed every ounce of information she could to prepare for this moment. Yowls and hisses started coming from WindClan. It was time. Those weak pathetic StarClan cats couldn’t save anyone now. StarClan was just a way to keep young cats in the old ways. But the old ways were outdated, it was time for someone else to make the rules. Tigerstar wanted the best for the clans. Ivypool pushed out her claws ready to fight. Onestar whisked over the hills, most of his Clan behind him. “Get off ThunderClan territory!” Ivypool yelled. She swiped at a pelt that flashed by. As the last WindClan cat retreated to ThunderClan’s camp, Ivypool sat down and waited for the other Dark Forest warriors.  Hawkfrost came over the hill and looked at Ivypool. “Why aren’t you attacking?” he asked. Ivypool was calm and replied, “I was waiting for the rest of you. I’m not mouse-brained, I can’t fight two Clans alone.” Hawkfrost looked at her, the expression in his eyes was unreadable. “Well then, here is your back-up.” he said coolly. As if on a cue, Dark Forest, and some living, cats raced towards the ThunderClan camp. The sounds of battle reached Ivypool’s ears and she raced down to help.

As she neared the camp she looked around, Mapleshade was furiously attacking Sandstorm. Come on Mapleshade, you got this. Ivypool paused. Sandstorm was almost her kin. But she gets everything too easy. Mapleshade lost it all, her kits, her Clan, and even her mate. Jayfeather and Leafpool were in the medicine cat's den looking at something in the middle of the camp. Lying on the ground in the clearing, dead, was, no, it couldn’t be, Hollyleaf?

Tigerheart was standing beside the body, slashing at any warrior who came close. “Tigerheart! Is that… is that Hollyleaf?!” Ivypool couldn’t believe it. How did Jayfeather and Lionblaze’s sister get here? And wasn’t she dead before? Tigerheart looked at Ivypool and nodded. “H-how did she die?” she asked as a golden, speckled she-cat swiped at her. “Him.” Tigerheart let out a low growl and looked at Hawkfrost who was  fighting furiously against a couple ShadowClan warriors, “She saved my life. A RiverClan warrior was on top of me and she clawed him off. Her reward for that, a cut throat from Hawkfrost. Hollyleaf didn’t do anything to him.” Ivypool froze. How could Hawkfrost do such a thing? He was on Tigerheart’s side, right? Just then it dawned upon her that no cat was safe from him, he was on his own side, fighting for only himself. In fact, all the Dark Forest cats were fighting for themselves. Do any of them care about the Clans at all? How could she not see it before?

“Fernsong!” Ivypool called. She dashed away, leaving a confused Tigerheart behind her. “Fernsong!” Everywhere she turned there were cats fighting, but she couldn’t catch a glimpse of the yellow tom anywhere. And to make matters worse, Hawkfrost was nowhere to be seen either. Ivypool started panicking, she was running out of time. They could be anywhere by now. Finally she heard a response, “Ivypool! Is that you?”

“Fernsong! Yes it’s me! Where are you?!” Ivypool was relieved.  Fernsong called out again, “Yes, I’m in the bush!” Ivypool padded to where the voice came from. “RUN IVYPOOL!!! It’s Hawkfrost!!!” Fernsong yowled so loudly she thought her ears would explode.

A dark shape lunged at her from the bush. Hawkfrost’s claws reached for her neck but she flung herself to the side. Hawkfrost’s claws grazed her ear which was right where her neck had been moments ago. There was no time to lose, spinning around, she leaped towards Hawkfrost. The brown and white tabby leaped at the same time and they collided in a fury of claws. Ivypool scraped at Hawkfrost’s underbelly with her hind legs, but Hawkfrost managed to bite one of her front paws making Ivypool slightly pause. But that was all Hawkfrost needed. In that one moment of hesitation he pushed Ivypool off himself and landed on her side. She was stuck now, at the mercy of a merciless tyrant. StarClan, help me… Ivypool thought one last time before she drifted into unconsciousness.

Chapter 4[]

Ivypool’s eyes fluttered open. She was in the medicine den and could hear voices outside. Her memory of the day before was still groggy. Or was it still today? Either way she couldn’t remember. Her head was aching too badly. Jayfeather came into the den holding some herbs in his jaws. He set them down next to Ivypool. “Eat this. It’s feverfew and chamomile, it will help your headache.” Jayfeather commanded. Ivypool obeyed and chewed up the herbs. Jayfeather’s blind eyes stared right at her, it was slightly unsettling.

Her memories started trickling back now, Hollyleaf, Fernsong, Hawkfrost, but there was something off. “What happened?”she asked Jayfeather. He didn’t reply. His tail rested on top of hers and he whispered, “You should probably wait a little.” Ivypool stood up. She could take it, her headache was gone now and she padded out the entrance. Once Ivypool’s eyes adjusted to the light she fell back to the ground. In the center of the camp were 7 bodies. Hawkfrost, Hollyleaf, Foxleap, Ferncloud, Firestar, Fernsong, and Dovewing.
